Racing on the current
The game of poohsticks was invented by Winnie the Pooh, in AA Milne’s book The House at Pooh Corner, first published in 1928. It remains popular today. Players each choose a stick and show it to fellow competitors so it is clear whose is whose. At an agreed signal they drop them into running water from the upstream side of a bridge. The stick that emerges first on the downstream side wins.
