Building a barbecue on the beach is a wonderful way to enjoy the lingering warmth of a summer’s evening

Long summer days in the sunshine stretch into warm, light-filled evenings. Hungry after a day of seaside fun, a barbecue on the stony Cornish shoreline is enjoyed by the whole family. Fresh locally-caught mackerel has been bought from a coastal fishmonger. The children gather round to help prepare the meal, brushing oil and sprinkling salt, before venturing off to explore rock pools while the food cooks. Over the glowing coals the iridescent skins of the fish crisp up and take on a delicious charred flavour above the juicy white flesh.
