A froth of flowers

-

Known as the butterfly bush, Buddleia davidii is at its most vibrant in August. Its tall conical flower panicles create a striking bouquet for the home. Choosing different varieties gives a pleasing contrast of colours. The ends of the stems are cut at an angle and a thin layer of outer bark peeled off to facilitate water uptake. Stems are then rinsed in very hot water before being placed in an enamel bucket for display. Doing this kills off bacteria that would shorten the life of the blooms.
