Simple sponge buns offer a sweet alternative to the riches of the festive season for young visitors. Snowflake outlines cut from icing left from decorating the Christmas cake make attractive wintry decorations. On a surface dusted with icing sugar and using a dusted rolling pin, the icing is rolled out to a thickness of 3mm. A round, serrated edge cutter is used to cut out the plain tops, which are fixed to the buns with a small dot of jam. The icing offcuts are combined and re-rolled, then two snowflake cutters are used. One creates an outline and the other a solid shape to decorate the plain tops. They are fixed in place with a little water.
