Checking tubers
Lifted and stored over the colder months, dahlia tubers are regularly checked. Each one is inspected for signs of rot, which indicates conditions are too damp. Any unhealthy specimens are discarded, and the cause of the dampness should be addressed. Covering with newspaper when a hard frost is expected offers protection. If tubers show signs of shrivelling, dryness is alleviated by misting them lightly with water. Should replacements be required, ordering immediately offers most choice.
