First Flush oF colour

This 1940s Wood’s Ware Beryl cup is ideal for use as a miniature planter for dainty snowdrops. The simple mint green earthenware cup was used in schools and halls throughout the country. Designed in wartime, shortages dictated that the design be simple, using as few resources as possible. Ribbed bands provide the main decoration but there are small flourishes on the handles. Its colour creates a perfect setting for this trio of snowdrops. The plants are carefully lifted in the green and placed into the cup, with enough dampened compost to hold them in place. Regularly watered, a covering of moss helps prevent excess moisture loss while indoors. As blooms fade, the bulbs are replanted in the garden to prepare for their return to dormancy.
