COVERING THE SEAT

The fabric is laid carefully onto the wadding, centring any pattern. In a process similar to that used in step 6, starting at the back, the fabric is loosely attached, but this time with a gimp pin, rather than a tack. Gimp pins come in a variety of colours, allowing for a colour match with the fabric. Pins should only be lightly hammered in as some repositioning may be necessary. The fabric is tightened and fixed with attention to the amount of tension used to ensure the pattern lies symmetrically. Only when the pattern is successfully placed are the pins fully hammered in 1cm apart. The fabric is then carefully trimmed with the shears, close to the line of tacks.
