Driven by the beat of drums, the May Queen and the Green Man lead a procession through Edinburgh. The word Beltane translates as ‘bright fire’ and so the modern festival finishes with the lighting of the Beltane bonfire. The pair’s journey is helped and hindered along the way until the Green Man’s fate and the May Queen’s destiny are sealed.
