Blooming from late spring, Armeria maritima is known by many names, including thrift, sea pink, cliff rose, cushion pink, marsh daisy and lady’s pincushion. An evergreen perennial with dense, needle-shaped leaves, it sends up slender stems to 12in (30cm) tall, topped with lollipops of tiny, rich pink to white flowers. Thriving in coastal areas and marshes in the wild, it likes well-drained soil and plenty of sun. Attractive to pollinators, clumps will spread slowly and are drought-tolerant once established.
