Selkirk Common Riding
Selkirk, Scottish Borders 16 June
Watch the spectacle of the annual Riding of the Marches which dates back at least 400 years. It stems from a time when people known as Burleymen had the task of ensuring no one was encroaching on the town’s common lands. The ride starts early in the morning and lasts about 4½ hours. The riders return to the town for the casting of the colours, a solemn ceremony.
