The attractive blue-green leaves of rue, Ruta graveolens, have an aromatic, sometimes pungent, scent and bitter flavour. Though not recommended for use in food, rue offcuts, pruned in spring and hung in bunches, are a natural way to keep insects at bay. Gloves are worn when handling the herb as blisters sometimes result from direct contact.
