EGGS AND EASTER

Eggs have been traditionally associated with fertility and birth and are a Christian symbol of the death and resurrection of Christ at Easter. The hard shell is broken to reveal the new life it harbours within. Chicken eggs were traditionally painted or dyed, and a red dye symbolised the blood of Christ. Today, it is more usual for chocolate eggs, often wrapped in coloured foil, to be given as gifts.
