Making up

-

Lay the knitted body tube section flat and sew the top cast-off seams together, creating the front and back of the cushion. Weave in the ends. With the black DK yarn and tapestry needle, embroider the eyes, nose and mouth features on the front of one of the head pieces. See the photograph on the previous page for the positioning of the features. Place the two head pieces wrong sides facing. Sew the two sides together using mattress stitch along the seams, leaving an opening to add the filling. Fill with toy stuffing and finish sewing the seam. Weave in the ends. Position the head on the top left-hand corner of the cushion cover. Secure it to the body using the chunky yarn, with a few stitches down the centre back of the head. Weave in the ends. Fold each foot lengthwise and sew the side seam. Fill with a small amount of toy filling. Sew the top seam. Position two feet on the front and two on the back of the cushion, approximately 2in (5cm) from the bottom edge, and sew in place. See the image for the positioning of the feet. Position the buttons evenly along the edge of the back seam of the cushion cover. Sew the buttons on with thread. Mark the corresponding position for the button loops on the front edge seam. Using a 6mm crochet hook and the chunky yarn, make a row of single chain stitches along the front seam edge, working into each cast-on knit stitch. At each of the marked button positions, make a chain loop, approximately 5 chains long, then join the loop back into the same hole, to create a looped button fastening. Complete the crochet edging to the end of the front seam. Weave in all the loose ends.
