Your instructions for the granny square in the Christmas 2017 issue brought back precious memories of my beloved gran who, despite being partially sighted, taught me to knit and crochet during one very cold Christmas school holiday. Shortly after, I embarked on my first blanket, which looked very like the one in your feature. Fifty years on, and many cot blankets and bedcovers later, I finally decided to make one for our own bed, utilising wool saved from years of knitting and yarn recycled from unpicked hand-knits.
