Trees deserve preservation
I was brought up in rural Northamptonshire, where we would watch the annual hedging and ditching. We have lived in Canada for 35 years and on our visits to the UK were surprised that hedging and ditching was no longer done. We also found that many of the beautiful trees were being strangled with ivy, though in your Jan/Feb 2018 issue, the article ‘A Hillside Romance’ refers to the removal of vines from trees. It would be nice to see this being followed through or soon all the magnificent older trees will be gone.
