Where to see puffins

The At­lantic puf­fin, Frater­cula arc­tica, is na­tive to the north At­lantic Ocean. There are thought to be be­tween 6 and 12 mil­lion puffins through­out their range, of which 580,000 pairs nest in the United King­dom. In­ter­na­tion­ally, puffins are clas­si­fied as vul­ner­a­ble by the In­ter­na­tional Union for the Con­ser­va­tion of Na­ture. A few puf­fin colonies can be found on main­land Bri­tain, but most nest on off­shore is­lands that are free of rats. Large colonies oc­cur at:
