Natural rest

-

A kitchen chair is given new life as an unusual garden feature when transformed into a planter for succulents. First, the seat is unscrewed and the cushion removed and discarded. The wooden base is then carefully cut to fit the underside of the chair. Several small holes are drilled to allow for drainage. The chair can then be sanded and painted with an outdoor paint, if desired. When the paint is fully dry, the base plate is screwed in place under the seat frame, to form a shallow wooden tray in the chair. The tray is lined and a layer of earth sprinkled over the top. A selection of succulents are then planted in, with the tallest at the back and lower-growing varieties towards the front. Finally, gravel and small pebbles are sprinkled over the top to create a unique rockery.
