A UNIQUE BLOOM

-

Late blooming Cheddar pink can still be found sprouting in some spots in the Mendips, especially on the limestone rocks of Cheddar Gorge. Though it is cultivated in gardens, Cheddar Gorge is the only place in the UK that this rare plant grows wild. Its pale or dark pink petals are fringed at the edges, as though trimmed with pinking shears, and have a sweetly spicy fragrance. A point of local pride, it is the county flower of Somerset.
