A veil slowly lifts

-

Just after dawn, the first rays of sunlight crest the horizon, beaming down on a serene lake. The moisture in the air which had settled in the cool of the night begins to warm, and tendrils of mist soon rise from the glossy surface. As the heat of the day increases, a smoky layer of dancing vapour appears. It hangs momentarily over the water, drifting in the slow movement of the morning air. Soon it begins to rise, glimmering gold where the sun shines through. In September, this mesmerising sight can be more easily and frequently witnessed as the ambient evening temperatures drop and the days remain warm. Sunrise is also later, so its glorious moments can be enjoyed without an especially early start. As well as lakes, this slow waking of the day can be seen on slow-moving rivers. A morning walk is well rewarded by the peaceful beauty of this natural phenomenon.
