Pears can be juiced us­ing a free­stand­ing or hand­held blender. If us­ing the lat­ter, the pears should be cut into chunks and placed in a high-sided bowl. A lit­tle wa­ter can be added once the pulp is smooth, to reach the de­sired con­sis­tency. A fine mesh strainer is then placed over an­other bowl and the pureed fruit pressed through us­ing a spat­ula or the back of a large spoon. Al­ter­na­tive meth­ods in­clude wrap­ping grated pears in a piece of cheese­cloth and squeez­ing it tightly over a bowl to ex­tract the juice. Chopped fruit can also be mashed in a bowl and the juice poured off.
