Contrasting Colours

There are variations on the classic bright pink Nerine bowdenii that are grown in exactly the same way and reach the same height as the species. ‘Alba’ is a pure, sharp white form that shows no traces of the classic pink shade. For more intense colour, ‘Isabel’ has a much darker pink flower. Mixing these three varieties together in the same pot or border will create bold colour contrasts. It will show off the variation within the species, which is seldom seen in gardens, where Nerine bowdenii is so often grown in isolation. For a more intriguing colour, ‘Ostara’ has flushed shell-pink flowers, which will develop a darker pink edge as the flowers age.
