Sweet­corn is also avail­able in or­na­men­tal va­ri­eties which can be used in a sea­sonal ta­ble dec­o­ra­tion. If not al­ready dried, the ears of corn are tied with string and hung in a cool, dark place for one week. They are ready when the ker­nels be­come hard enough to re­sist the pres­sure of a fin­ger­nail. The ears are then taken down, bun­dled together and tied with garden twine, with the leafy husks peeled up­ward. Their colour and flame­like tops needs lit­tle else to make a state­ment.
