A SMOOTH SURFACE

If there are gaps between the slats in the top of crate and a tidier effect is preferred, these can be filled in for a more solid surface. It will also prevent any small item placed on the top from slipping through. Slivers of wood are cut to fit tightly in place and secured at the edge of the crate with small nails. Fingers should be safely out of the way when the nails are carefully hammered into place.
