NEEDLEWORKER’S COMPANION

Landscape (UK) - - In The Kitchen -

A useful gift for a friend who enjoys sewing is simply put together using a preserve jar, with a loose insert lid, filled with pretty buttons and cottons. Firstly, the lid and insert are removed from the jar. A circle of fabric with a diameter twice that of the lid is stitched all the way round with a line of loose running stitch and the ends left unknotted. A handful of wadding, such as scrap fabric or old socks cut into small pieces, is placed in the middle of the circle and the lid insert placed face down on top. The stitching is pulled tight around the insert and tied closed. The cushion is pushed up through the screw part of the lid and glued in place. Once dry, a circle of fabric can be glued inside the lid to cover the stitching. The jar is filled with a selection of small haberdashery items.
