FROZEN LANTERNS LIGHT THE WAY

-

A series of lanterns, made of ice, guide visitors towards the door, lighting the way with a pale, flickering glow. They are simple to make, needing only some balloons, water and somewhere to freeze them. The balloons are first filled with water, to the size desired for the lantern, and then tied off. The filled balloons are left on a table outside overnight to freeze. In the morning, the rubber of the balloon is gently cut and peeled away. The outer layer of ice will have frozen but the centre should still be liquid, so the fragile spheres should be handled with care. A hole is carefully knocked in the top using a screwdriver, and the water inside poured away. The lanterns are positioned outside with small candles placed within. Care needs to be taken around the open flame, and the candles should not be left unattended. A magical welcome then awaits visitors to the home.
