Making new from old
I was really fascinated by your article in the September issue, on Louise Bell’s quilts. My friend and I recently completed our own heirloom quilt by reusing old tablecloths and tray cloths inherited from our families. We rescued portions of embroidery and hand sewed them into a patchwork. We used an old blanket for wadding and a damask tablecloth for backing. The quality of embroidery varies, which is part of the charm. Some of this work was completed almost a century ago, and now it is preserved. Jo Hardy, Nottinghamshire
