TRADITIONAL DESSERT
Cranachan was historically served in Scotand to celebrate the raspberry harvest in June and comprised layers of the fruit and cream together with oats soaked in a little whisky. It originated from the popular breakfast meal of crowdie cheese – a soft, unripened Scottish cheese – which was eaten with toasted oatmeal, cream and honey, and sometimes supplemented by raspberries when in season. Cranachan can also be made by bringing dishes of each ingredient to the table to be assembled to taste by the diners. Alternative versions of the recipe include spiced rum, raisins, orange and chocolate in the ingredients.
