Colour of the season
In hues of butter, lemon sherbet and gold, the colour yellow announces the arrival of spring. Primroses, in an almost luminous shade, tinged with green, emerge in clumps on the river bank. Groups of daffodils spring forth together in rich primary or delicate, lemonade yellow, a cheery group seemingly eager to meet the lengthening sunlight hours. Willow catkins, like small downy buds, are coated in yellow pollen, ready to be carried away on the wind or the legs of an unsuspecting insect. Newly-hatched mallard ducklings wear the colour on their first coat. In the earliest days of spring, nature’s cheeriest colour can be seen all over the countryside.
