three of A kind
There are three species of hare in the British Isles: the brown hare, Lepus europaeus, which arrived with the Romans, possibly even the Anglo-Saxons; the Irish hare, Lepus timidus hibernicus, introduced for sporting purposes, and mostly found on the Isle of Mull; and the mountain hare, Lepus timidus, a native species which goes back 10,000 years to the last major ice age. The mountain hare is mostly found in Scotland, but small populations still exist in those places where they were introduced for hunting.
