THE LURE OF SCENT

-

In June, drawn by the gentle warmth of the sun, hundreds of flowers burst from the bud. As the season progresses, blooms of varying colours and sweet fragrances fill the garden, some releasing their perfume during daylight hours, others in the low, blue light of dusk. Bees, butterflies and moths are particularly drawn to the tall, stately lupin, some species of which exude a distinctive, peppery scent. They make excellent cut flowers and piled into a wicker basket, ready to be carried indoors, their abundance is irresistible. Many popular garden plants are poisonous to dogs, including geraniums, alliums, delphiniums, aquilegias and the leaves and seeds of lupins and foxgloves. Veterinary assistance should be sought immediately should a dog chew or eat any of these plants.
