COLOUR FROM THE FIELDS

-

Clusters of wild flowers create a fresh burst of colour when enveloped in green for this simple rustic arrangement. Here, the milky-white blooms of chamomile, Matricaria recutita, with their piercing lemon yellow centres and daisy-like appearance, also infuse the air with a sweet, apple-like fragrance. Once placed in a vase, feathered heads of barley, Hordeum vulgare, are bound around the glass with garden string, to bring a feeling of the countryside into the home. The herringbone pattern of the kernels adds interest, and cuttings of other grasses can be included to fill out the cheerful display.
