Vine weevil can be a problem when growing clematis in containers. Applying nematodes during the growing season will control this pest. Slugs and snails can also be a problem. Walls and trellises should be checked to seek out any snails lurking and regular checks made for slugs hiding underneath debris around the base of the plant.
