PATTERNS FROM THE VEG PLOT

-

A pretty new tablecloth will help to give the kitchen a fresh look and can be fashioned from durable fabric or linen, embellished with a print design using fabric paint and potato halves. Firstly, the fabric is cut to the desired size. Ideally, the overhang, or drop length, should be at least 6in (15cm) or more. The edges can be trimmed using pinking shears or left frayed for a decorative effect. To create the Art Deco-style print, the flat edge of a halved potato is dipped into the paint and pressed onto the fabric. A knife can be used to score the potato to create stripes when pressed. Once dry, a piece of cotton is placed over the fabric and the design set in with an iron using dry heat. Steam should be avoided. It is best to follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
