CUSHION OF FRAGRANCE

-

A plump heart embellished with a pretty button is simply made from scraps of fabric. It can be stuffed with padding and hung as a decoration or filled with dried herbs, such as lavender or rosemary, to exude an aromatic scent. To make, two hearts are cut from different fabrics using pinking shears, with one slightly smaller than the other. A third, much smaller, heart is cut from contrasting fabric using plain scissors. This will form the soft cushion. The hearts are placed on top of one another in descending size. The smallest is traced with zigzag stitch to sew all three together, leaving a gap for the padding. Once filled, the remainder is sewn. A contrasting button adds the finishing touch, sewn through the hearts and catching a length of looped ribbon, which allows it to be strung from a door.
