GUIDE LINES FOR POLLINATORS
Frequently found on the fringes of arable farmland, Viola arvensis, commonly known as the field pansy, is a low-growing perennial that bears delicate, creamy-yellow flowers adorned with a ray of dainty violet markings. These help pollinators to determine where to procure the nectar. Often confused with its close relative the wild pansy, the flowers of field pansy are much smaller, and the petals are usually shorter than its sepals. The blooms are particularly attractive to butterflies, including the Queen of Spain fritillary, which lays its eggs on the plant.
