SUNKEN TREASURE

-

There are tales of a Spanish Armada vessel lying out in the waters of the bay at Tobermory. After the defeat of the Armada, the surviving Spanish ships were blown north, and there are stories of them in various corners of the west of Scotland, the west of Ireland, and even the west of Norway. The Tobermory story came with whispers that this particular ship was laden with gold. But it is highly probable that romance added wings and a tail to the story, for it seems unlikely that a warship would be heavily loaded with gold in this way. What was not in doubt was the evidence of a real vessel, and one that might have been blown up in Tobermory harbour before sinking to the bottom. There have been several attempts to bring up spoils from the ill-fated ship, but all that has been salvaged so far are cannons and guns. The treasure, if there ever was any, has yet to be found.
