ROLLED WALL ART

-

A circular paper sculpture makes a dramatic statement when hung on a plain wall and is easily made from the pages of an unwanted road atlas. To begin, a large circle, slightly smaller than the desired size of the decoration, is cut from a piece of corrugated card from a box. This can be done freehand, as it will not be seen. A centre hole is then cut to create a ring. The width of the ring should be slightly less than the height of the map book to be used. Pages are carefully removed from the book using a sharp craft knife. Each is rolled lengthways into a tight cone and secured with tape. Care is taken to make sure all the cones are a similar size. Strong glue is used to stick them around the ring, gradually building up a sun-like band of cones. If the book has enough pages, a second row can be added on top to create depth. The rolled lengths of paper give the sculpture structure, while remaining very light. Hung on a wall, the patterns of the map can be admired.
