Happy hen family is a source of joy

I have been keeping chickens for more than 20 years and was delighted to see the chicken feature in the March issue. It was great and full of helpful advice to new and seasoned poultry keepers alike. It is such a rewarding hobby. I love spending quality time with these friendly souls and, of course, eating the wonderful eggs. We currently have three young, but large, Brahma hens, renowned for their docile nature. Despite their giant size, they have become friendly ‘minders’ for our single white Leghorn hen, Lucy, who had been bullied by her previous flock mates, which were rehomed to a good friend. Her Brahma buddies are perfect company for her, and it is gratifying to know calmness has been well and truly restored. During the last few days, one of the Brahmas laid her first egg.
