HOW TO CREATE A SIMPLE CONTAINER POND

-

MATERIALS

Large container Pond liner

Bricks Lime-free gravel Selection of pond plants Pond planting baskets Hessian squares Aquatic compost Rocks

The container is thoroughly cleaned and made waterproof if necessary by lining it with a length of pond liner. The container is filled to halfway with water. If the container is quite deep, some bricks might be needed to place on the bottom, to lift the plants to their required planting depth. A thin layer of gravel is added to the base of the pond.

Step 2: The pond plants are removed from their pots and set into pond plant baskets lined with hessian and then filled with aquatic compost. The surface of the compost is covered with gravel to keep it in place when submerged. The plant baskets are placed onto the bricks, and the container is filled so that the surface of the compost is just under the water.

Step 3: Rocks are added as ledges for frogs and other wildlife, to enable them to get out of the pond, and a gangway can also be added up the outside if necessary, so that they can get in.
