Spurs star’s meteoric rise

THERE’S something about Harry Kane that has everybody talking.Without doubt, the unexpected emergence of any talented young English striker is bound to rouse interest, but that’s par for the course. Put simply, there’s more to Harry Kane than being the latest in a long line of prospectiv­e saviours of English football.

Hearing of a 6ft 2in English striker with slicked back hair named Harry Kane settling the North London derby with a sublime looping header before charging off to celebrate with the Tottenham fans – his people – one could be forgiven for thinking you were back in the 1950s. Indeed, this is why people are talking. This is why the Tottenham fans deliriousl­y sing that he’s ‘one of our own.’ Kane is a throwback to a bygone age. His clean-cut, unassuming image and innate abili- ty to assert his will onto games has arguably been the revelation of this Premier League season.

In the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Angel Di Maria, the Premier League boasts some of the foremost talents in the world game, but something about Harry Kane’s rise has struck a chord with the romantic in all of us.

However, such romanticis­m is in no way condescend­ing towards Kane’s abilities. This is a young man who is very much the real deal. Pundits have struggled to identify any real weaknesses in his game, which, for a player of Kane’s age and position, is quite remarkable.
