to step up from each of the Evo-Stik NPL Premier, Evo-Stik Southern League Premier and Ryman Premier.

It’s more difficult to solve the problems in Non-League with the number of leagues to consider, but it’s surely possible higher up the ladder. That would certainly make a good starting point. If there were three promotion places from the National League to League Two, then clubs might not feel as though they are stepping into the abyss if they go down. A third promotion place would add extra interest to the National League, which has become more and more profession­al over the years.

It’s surely only right for clubs, players and fans. Why should you have half the chance of promotion at the start of the season than a club one division higher up the ladder?

Let’s hope the powers-that-be get on the case soon and make football fairer for all.
