Keeping it Simple

“The best players do the simple things very, very well”.

I’ll never forget my coach at Walsall FC telling me that. It sticks with me.

In all my years of playing football, I’d still say that’s the best piece of advice I’ve ever received.

Because how annoying is it watching certain players trying to overplay that don’t possess the technical attributes to pull off what they’re trying to do? Very.

I see it so often. A midfielder tries to do a Cruyff turn on the halfway line, gets robbed and their team is 1-0 down. It happens.

So that’s why I love to see midfielders keep it simple. If you’re the worker in your team, win it
