Frothblowers in appeal to help raise funds for elderly

-

CHARITY organisers have once again appealed for people to join them at village pub sales over the next few weeks to enable a unique tradition to continue.

Ipstones Frothblowers is a longstanding organisation which raises funds by holding auctions at pubs in the parish during September and October.

The sales are held at The Fox and Goose at Foxt and The Marquis,

The Red Lion and The Sea Lion, in Ipstones.

Items auctioned off include cakes, jams, fruit, vegetables, bric-a-brac, flowers and household goods.

The money is then distributed to every man aged over 65 and woman aged over 60 in the villages of Ipstones and Foxt, in hand-delivered envelopes .

Just before last Christmas members took to the streets of both villages to deliver envelopess containing £15 to 395 residents in the communities

Secretary of the organising committee, Julie Riley, said: “The four sales are now planned, starting this Sunday, September 23, at The Marquis in Ipstones.

“There is a lot of excitement and enthusiasm and there will be lots of bargains.

“We do need more support at all four sales to enable us to raise the funds required. We would be grateful if people came forward to join us.

“Everyone wants the tradition to continue so it is vital that support is there.

“The committee is very strong, hard-working and very dedicated and is hopeful that enough money will be raised to give residents another Christmas bonus.

“We delivered the money to more than 390 people at Christmas last year.”

Similar auctions, which have previously attracted people from all over the Staffordshire Moorlands, have taken place every year since the 1950s at the pubs in the parish.

This year’s auction sales will take place at The Marquis in Ipstones on Sunday, September 23; The Sea Lion on Sunday, September 30; The Fox and Goose in Foxt on Sunday, October 7, and The Red Lion in Ipstones on Sunday, October 14.

All of the pub sales will start at 7.30pm prompt.

People wishing to donate items are asked to drop any saleable items and home produce at one of the venues on the day of the sale.
