WOODCROFT WI
THE SPEAKER for our September meeting was Nikki Parmenter who brought with her a large selection of her textile work.
Every piece she produced was greeted with gasps of admiration and soon three tables and half the floor space were filled with her amazing work.
She scours charity shops, antique fairs and DIY stores for inspiration, but no one guessed that some of her creations were hiding hose pipe, a ballcock and the inside of a tomato puree tube! Nikki has exhibited her work in many places including Chester Cathedral, Tatton Park and the Silk
Museum in Macclesfield and she somehow finds time to run workshops and summer schools.
She is a very talented and inspirational speaker. Nikki judged our competition for a textile collage and Sharon Lancaster was a very jubilant winner, with Marg Waine second.
The rest of the month looks set to be busy again. A walk is planned for Hartington and Berrisford Dale on September 20, a trip to Cinemac to see ‘The Miseducation of Cameron Post’ will take place on the
13th, coffee club on the 18th, craft club on the 27th and our two book groups will be running as usual. A big ‘thank you’ to all the ladies who organise these activities and to all those who take part in them.
Our latest adventure is to take part in a taster session of walking netball at the leisure centre. Since most of us haven’t played since leaving school it should prove interesting.
Our next meeting is on October 8 when our speaker is Janet Bray who is going to demonstrate and allow us to have a go at felting. Members are reminded that they need to pay for the trip to Chester on December 1 and that there will be a book
stall for ACWW. We meet at St Luke’s church room at 7.30pm and visitors are always very welcome.
