Five star show from ladies as they continue excellent start

-

LEEK Ladies continued their fine start to the new season with a 5-1 win at Wyrley Ladies in the West Midlands League.

They started game on the front foot and when Laceymay Smith challenged for a header in the Wyrley box with a defender, it resulted in an own goal.

Five minutes later and Chantelle Gallagher put

Katie Gibbons through for a tap in for Leek’s second.

A free-kick was then awarded on the far right edge of the Wyrley penalty area which Gallagher dispatched into the top corner to put Leek 3-0 up on 15 minutes.

Wyrley then played some good football and tested the Leek defence who performed well. A good Wyrley effort then forced keeper Charlie Ball into a good save.

Gallagher then put Rehanne Mellor through on goal and she dinked the bouncing ball over the keeper and into the net.

Just before half-time midfielder Rhian Morris ran through on goal but placed her shot just the wrong side of the post.

Wyrley came out for the second half and put

Leek under pressure with centre-backs Katie Maya and Naomi Sale-hancock making clearances.

Gibbons then had a good chance, but her effort agonisingly hit the post.

Wyrley, now pushing forward, attacked down the Leek right which full-back Chloe Brown cleared.

On 75 minutes Gibbons broke free again and this time hit the back of the net for Leek’s fifth goal.

Towards the end of the half a good Wyrley move resulted in a well taken goal to pull one back for the home side.

Wyrley gave Leek Town player of match to Naomi Sale-hancock.
