LEEK: A 32-year-old man has appeared in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving after an accident on the A523.

David John Leather, of Warrington Drive, Leek, was charged with causing the death of Steven Farrish, while driving a Ford Ranger on the road near Bosley in October last year.

Leather was also charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to provide information relating to the identification of the driver of the vehicle.

He spoke only to confirm his name and address during an appearance at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, September 25.

Leather will next appear at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, October 23.

ENDON: Thomas Eivers has been banned from the roads for 13 months after he was caught drink-driving.

The 32-year-old was stopped by police as he pulled on to his driveway in High View Road, Endon, at 1.15am on September 9. Prosecutor Emma Thompson told North Staffordshire Justice Centre: “Police stopped him due to the manner of his driving. He was breathalysed and gave a reading of 49 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath, against the legal limit of 35.”

Eivers, of High View Road, Endon, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to drink-driving. Adam Morgan, mitigating, said the defendant – a self-employed photographer and graphic designer – had been to a pub to watch a band. Mr Morgan said: “He drank two ciders. Naively, he was not aware that the concentration of the cider was higher than usual.”

Eivers was fined £113 and ordered to pay £135 costs and a £30 surcharge. His ban will be reduced if he completes a rehabilitation course.
