Athletic go top and Old Boys win again

SILVERDALE Athletic are the new leaders of the Staffs County Senior League Premier Division after Tunstall Town were beaten for the first time this season.

While Athletic were putting 16 goals past bottom club Florence, Tunstall were losing 4-1 at Redgate Clayton.

Kingsley Gyamfi netted six times and Dom Thorley five times for Silverdale who had raced into a 9-0 lead by the half-time whistle.

Alistair Cope (2), Tom Kimberley, Jeff Jolley and Reece White were their others scorers.

Over at Clayton Redgate produced an excellent second-half performanc­e to beat Tunstall.

Gabby Chimazinga (8) and Sean Turner (35) had the scores level at the break, but in the second half, Chimazinga (57) and Jack Finney (77, 83) put Redgate in control.

Leek CSOB are second on goal difference after they beat Ashbourne 2-0 with a goal in each half.

Jamie Pointon put the Leek outfit ahead from the penalty spot on 15 minutes and Eddie Ellis netted the second as the Old Boys celebrated their first home game of the season with three points.

Foley Meir remain in touch following a close match at Eastwood Hanley. Ada Tomkinson scored for Eastwood, but Mark Grice netted twice to earn Foley Meir a 2-1 victory.

Stafford Town are getting into their stride following relegation from the Midland League and are sitting sixth following their 4-1 win at Newcastle Town.

Louis Mercteca put Castle ahead on 41 minutes, but Dave Wilcock (45), Sam Jessup (66), Lenny Baker (72) and Declan Arber (87) completed the comeback for Stafford.

Cheadle Town picked up three welcome points from a 5-1 win at Hanley Town.

Philip Sambrook scored for Hanley, with Ben Milner (2), Macauley Rowe, Lewis Fallows and Paul Hughes on the mark for Cheadle to chalk up their fourth win of the season.

Into Division One where Audley kept their noses out in front with a 3-2 home win over Keele Univetsity with goals from Matt Barlow, Danny Meek and Mark Barnett.
