Record win sends Ladies top

-

LEEK Town Ladies went top of West Midlands Regional Women’s League Division One North with their biggest ever victory – 14-0 at Florence.

Chantelle Gallagher opened the scoring with a good strike from the edge of the box after three minutes, and scored a second 10 minutes later when put through by Katie Gibbons.

Gallagher turned supplier when she rounded a defender and found Lacey Smith for a tap in on 20 minutes.

Emily Boon almost made it four but her shot from 20 yards hit the crossbar and went over.

Lacey Smith scored her second firing high into the net when put through by Gibbons on 24 minutes.

Florence then produced some good periods of play and the Leek defenders and keeper had to play well to keep them out.

Gibbons then put Alice Painter through and her resultant shot hit the post.

Leek scored two quick goals after half time. The first via Gibbons and the second with Gallagher turning and finishing for her hat-trick.

Florence then had a good move with two strikers combining and Leek keeper Hannah Austin was forced into a good save. Gibbons then broke through the Florence back line for her second goal. Gallagher was then tripped in the box and converted the resulting penalty.

Gibbons then completed her own hat-trick in the 64th minute.

Wingers Emily Boon and Alice Painter were both having good games and causing problems down the flanks.

Leek then introduced striker Rehanne Mellor, returning from injury who looked really sharp, scoring a third Blues hat-trick during her 23 minutes on the pitch.

Gallagher was also then on the mark again to score her fifth goal.

Centre Back Katie Maya got the other goal, running virtually the length of the pitch before slotting home.
