BEAUTY queen Stephanie Wood has raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity since winning her first pageant tiara in 2015.

The 27-year-old teacher from Brown Edge has now been nominated in the fund-raiser of the year category of the Moorlands Heroes Awards.

Stephanie has raised £46,342 for charity to date, including £10,000 for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice and £10,500 for the Peter Pan Centre.

She was crowned Miss Staffordsh­ire in 2015, Miss Staffordsh­ire Great Britain on three separate occasions, competed in Miss England and Miss Great Britain plus helped to establish Miss Prom Staffordsh­ire.

She was nominated by her proud fiancee, Adam Soane, who proposed to her on stage at a beauty contest.

Adam said: “Stephanie is Miss Great Britain’s top fund-raiser, raising money for both local and national charities.

“She has run marathons, abseiled down buildings, climbed Snowdon, organised cake sales, charity curry nights, race nights, quiz nights, fashions shows and many more to help to change the lives of young people.

“She has set up and run her own successful teen charity pageant called Miss Prom Staffordsh­ire.”

Stephanie combines her charitable efforts with working full-time as a PE teacher at Wolstanton High School.

Adam added: “She is passionate about making a difference to the lives of young people.

“In her spare time she delivers master classes across Staffordsh­ire, aiming to raise girls’ self confidence and esteem levels.

“She teaches them things that aren’t on the curriculum such as interview techniques and first impression­s.

“Stephanie recently came sixth in the Miss Great Britain finals winning the charity round and the publicity round.

“She has changed the lives of so many young people, not just with her charity work but her kind and caring nature and wanting to make a difference.

“She truly deserves to be recognised for her hard work and dedication as well as her services to our local community.”

Stephanie said she was surprised but delighted to be put forward for the accolade.

“Everybody says I must be crazy to do the things I do alongside my day job, but I really enjoy it,” she said.

“It was my idea to set up Miss Prom Staffordsh­ire for 14 to 25-year-olds and we never expected it to be as popular as it has become.

“It’s not about looks, it’s about finding well-rounded people who can be really good role models for the area.

“A lot of parents say that taking part in pageants helps their children’s confidence and life skills.
