Plans for 55 extra houses on land next to former pub

MORE than 50 homes could be built on land in a village - according to plans submitted to council chiefs.
Developer ‘Messrs Davenport’ have lodged an outline planning application to build a total of 55 homes on land adjacent to the former Travellers Rest pub in Leekbrook.
Although it is only an outline application at this stage the homes are expected to be two stories and consist of both semi-detached and detached homes.
The properties are set to be a mix of three and four bedroom houses - with up to 18 of them planned to be allocated as affordable housing. A site plan lodged with Staffordshire Moorlands District Council as part of the application shows the new homes would each have a driveway - and be connected to the A520 Cheddleton Road by a new access road.
In a design and access statement supporting the application, the developers said: “The application for up to 55 dwellings would make an invaluable contribution to housing delivery in the Staffordshire Moorlands, particularly at a time where only a 1.99 year housing supply can be demonstrated. This contribution to the social aspect of sustainability also attracts significant weight attributable to the proposal.
“The development would also enhance the economy by the creation of jobs associated with the developments construction stage and new residents are also likely to support existing local services and businesses within the area.
“In terms of the environmental dimension of sustainable development this site is considered to be reasonably well located in terms of its accessibility to local services.
“There is also a regular bus service which provides regular and frequent access to neighbouring villages such as Cheddleton and towns such as Cheadle, Leek and Hanley.
“The scale of the development will be informed by that of the adjacent residential development and will continue the relaxed, leafy and attractive character in a scheme of similar density and scale.” A VILLAGE launched calendar on Saturday.
Ipstones Calendar Group, which is run by Kath Chell and Marie Mcgowan-griffin, started the sale of next year’s edition at a coffee morning held in conjunction with the Ipstones and Foxt Senior Citizens Association in Ipstones Memorial Hall.
The full colour calendar features 65 pictures taken from all around the community.
Last year’s sales of the calendar produced a profit of £600 which has been split between Ipstones Luncheon Club and St Leonard’s First School.
Marie Mcgowan-griffin said: “We had more than 100 pictures sent in by members of the public. We have been delighted with the response.
“New this year are the adverts from local businesses which feature on the month’s pages. The sponsorship has been very welcome.
“We hope that we may be able to make more profit this year which will go to local organisations in need of support.
“The calendars, which are designed by members of the group before being sent to the printers, are sent to relatives and friends all over the world including South Africa, Australia and Singapore.
“We are pleased to announce that last year’s calendar made a profit its 2019 of £600 which has been divided between the village luncheon club and school.
“We would now like suggestions on where people would like to see any profits from future calendars donated to.”
The event attracted an excellent attendance and the coffee morning raised more than £300 for the senior citizens’ association.
Chairman of the Ipstones and Foxt Senior Citizens Association, Linda Malyon, said: “We have run this event in partnership with the calendar group. We are delighted with the attendance and the money raised for the senior citizens group.”
The calendar will now be on sale at the village shop, butcher’s, Countrystore premises and pubs.
The calendar group will also be attending a Christmas Market night at St Leonard’s First School on Friday, November 30.
